Independence Plaza Park in Kansas City features a newer, spread-out playground setup with a unique twist: the park is split in two by a busy road. On one side, you’ll find a large play area with a central net structure, zip line, swings, and a grassy hill—plenty of fun for older kids. On the other side of the street are two newer pickleball courts (often empty) and the standout feature: a fenced-in, paved mini soccer pitch with goals on either end—perfect for a quick 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 match. The park offers shaded picnic areas, lots of open green space, no dedicated parking lot – but on-street parking, and a water fountain. The biggest drawback is the lack of restrooms and the busy road dividing the park. While not geared toward toddlers or inclusive design, the combination of unique play elements and open layout makes this a fun stop for energetic kids and casual sports play.
